Bundesliga Week 28 May 26 Betting Preview
Borussia Dortmund vs Bayern Munich
Time: 12:30 PM EST
Odds: Borussia Dortmund +280, Draw +340, Bayern Munich -130
Last Game: 4-0 Bayern Munich on November 9th 2019
This week’s Bundesliga games open with what’s set to be the match of the season when Bayern Munich travel to Borussia Dortmund for a game that will decide the title race. Host’s Dortmund sit 4 points back of Bayern and anything less than a win here will all but secure Bayern’s 8th consecutive title. Dortmund had another strong performance over the weekend beating Wolfsburg 2-0. They have now won 6 Bundesliga games in a row, only allowing 1 goal against in those games. Dortmund will be at close to full strength for this one with Matts Hummels, Axel Witsel and Jadon Sancho all being available to play. Bayern Munich dispatched Frankfurt at home on Saturday 5-2 and now undefeated in their last 13 and winner of their last 8 across all competitions. Coutinho, Sule and Thiago will not be available for the visitors here, and Jérôme Boateng’s status also in question after leaving the Frankfurt game with a hip issue.
Expect underdogs Dortmund to come out flying here as only a win will keep them in the title race. To the hosts credit they have won 2 in a row at home against the Bavarian giants, but they will need to do so today without the help of the Yellow Wall, the largest standing terrace in Europe. Just because Bayern can all but secure the title with a draw, don’t expect them to bring a conservative approach to Signal Iduna Park. Bayern have a knack for asserting their dominance when playing other title contenders, just last year they destroyed Dortmund 5-0 with 6 games remaining to reclaim the top spot on their way to their 7th consecutive title. Expect the stars to shine when these two teams meet today in a back and forth display of offensive firepower.
Bayer Leverkusen vs Wolfsburg
Time: 2:30 PM EST
Odds: Bayer Leverkusen -140, Draw +300, Wolfsburg +360
Last Game: 2-0 Bayer Leverkusen on November 10th 2019
The marquee matchup of the afternoon slate sees two european hopefuls face off. Bayer Leverkusen enters this game on the heels of an emphatic 3-1 win over fellow Champions League hopefuls Borussia Monchengladbach. Now undefeated in their last 7 Bundeslaga games and winners of their last 3, Leverkusen is playing as well as anyone in the league. Lars Bender remains out for this game, while Jonathan Tah and Kevin Volland will be game time decisions. Wolfsburg retained the 6th and final european spot over the weekend despite going down 2-0 to Dortmund, thanks to Freiburg and Schalke also losing. With their challengers only 2 points back and both facing teams from the bottom of the table this week, Wolfsburg will certainly feel the pressure to get a result here. Felix Klaus will not be available here after picking up a red card last week, while Austrian midfielder Xaver Schlager is expected to be available.
Expect an exciting game here as both teams will feel the pressure to get a result to hold onto their respective European spots for another week. Leverkusen is the better side here, and wunderkid Kai Havertz has been on fire since the return to play, scoring 4 goals in 2 games. However, Wolfsburg have been a tough nut to crack for Leverkusen at home, with Bayer’s last win coming back in 2016.
Eintracht Frankfurt vs SC Freiburg
Time: 2:30 PM EST
Odds: Eintracht Frankfurt +100, Draw +250, SC Freiburg +260
Last Game: 1-0 SC Freiburg on November 10th 2019
This game sees two teams desperate for their first win since the resumption of play. Frankfurt come into this game losers of 5 straight after dropping 5-2 to league leaders Bayern last week. Currently in 14th they are sure to be feeling the pressure to put some distance between themselves and the relegation playoff spot. The hosts look to be at close to full strength with the return of Dominik Kohr returning from suspension and only David Abraham and Gonçalo Paciência being questionable for this match. SC Freiburg also come into this game on the heels of loss, being upset by 17th place Werder Bremen at home last week. Currently in 7th and within striking distance of the last European spot, Freiburg will be desperate for a win here. Lukas Kübler is out for this one, while Robin Koch and Janik Haberer are both in doubt.
Despite being separated by 7 spots Frankfurt look like the better team here with more goals and fewer goals against to their name. The last 6 games between these two teams have been split evenly with 2 wins for each side and 2 draws. Expect this to be a close one, with a draw looking likely as both teams try to stop the bleeding.
Werder Bremen vs Borussia Mönchengladbach
Time: 2:30 PM EST
Odds: Werder Bremen +340, Draw +290, Borussia Mönchengladbach -130
Last Game: 3-1 Borussia Mönchengladbach on November 10th 2019
This game features a matchup of two teams at opposite ends of the standings who are both in need of a result. Hosts Werder Bremen are coming off their first Bundesliga win in 126 days and will be looking to build on that momentum as they continue to push to avoid relegation. Currently in 17th and 3 points back of Fortuna Düsseldorf they will need a result to keep their Bundesliga hopes alive. Philipp Bargfrede is suspended after picking up a red card on the weekend, and Ömer Toprak and striker Claudio Pizarro are out with injuries. Ludwig Augustinsson and Kevin Vogt are both returning from injuries and will be game time decisions. Borussia Mönchengladbach were dealt a blow in their pursuit of a Champions League spot last week when they fell 3-1 at home to Bayer Leverkusen. Currently in 5th and 1 point back of Bayer and the final Champions league spot they will be looking to capitalize on a soft matchup to stay in the race for a top 4 finish. Breel Embolo and Tobias Strobl will both miss this one after leaving the Leverkusen game with injuries, while Tony Jantschk, Ramy Bensebaini and Keanan Bennetts are all set to return from muscle injuries.
Werder Bremen have the worst home record in the division, losing their last 7 in a row and only managing 1 win all year, and we don’t expect a reversal of that trend against a motivated Borussia Mönchengladbach side. Mönchengladbach have won their last 3 Bundesliga games in Bremen, only losing 1 game of the last 6 played at the Weserstadion. Expect an emphatic result for Borussia Monchengladbach in this one.
