Bundesliga Week 28 May 27 Betting Preview
RB Leipzig vs Hertha Berlin
Time: 12:30 PM EST
Odds: RB Leipzig -360, Draw +500, Hertha Berlin +750
Last Game: 4-2 RB Leipzig on November 9th 2019
The early game looks to be the best match of the day when Hertha Berlin visit RB Leipzig. Leipzig enter the game on the heels of an emphatic 5-0 win at Mainz 05 on the weekend, and are now unbeaten in their last 9 in all competitions. A win here would see them jump into 2nd place, and more importantly, put 4 points between themselves Monchengladbach in 4th. Konrad Laimer, Ethan Ampadu and Ibrahima Konaté are all doubtful for this match, with Dayot Upamecano returning from injury and Emil Forsberg possibly being available after a bout of tonsillitis. Hertha also enter this one on high note after drubbing local rival Union Berlin 4-0 at home in the Berlin Derby over the weekend and are now unbeaten in their last 4. Santiago Ascacibar is doubtful with a foot injury while Marius Wolf looks likely to return.
The last 6 matches between these teams has seen an average of 5.33 goals scored per game so expect some fireworks in this one. This has been a favorable matchup for RB Leipzig as they’ve 5 of the last 6 meetings. Hertha are undefeated in their last 6 away matches, including wins over Leverkusen, Wolfsburg and Hoffenhiem. Expect a back and forth game with the advantage to RB Leipzig.
Hoffenheim vs FC Köln
Time: 2:30 PM EST
Odds: Hoffenheim +150, Draw +260, FC Köln +160
Last Game: 2-1 Hoffenheim on November 8th 2019
This game features two teams that are both looking to get back on track following the restart. Hoffenhiem come into this game following a surprising 1-1 draw to last place Paderborn, and are now winless in their last 7 Bundesliga games. Despite that poor run a win here could see them jump to 7th and be within striking distance of the final European spot. Andrej Kramaric and Sargis Adamyan are doubtful for this one, both recovering from ankle injuries. FC Köln enter this game on the heels of their second consecutive 2-2 draw, the latest one coming at home to rivals Fortuna Düsseldorf. Köln currently sit in 10th, 2 points back of Hoffenheim and a win here would see them leapfrog their opponents. Rafael Czichos is doubtful as he seeks to return from a spinal injury.
This matchup has been a favorable one for Hoffenheim as FC Köln have failed to secure a win in the last 5 meeting between these two teams in the Bundesliga. Hoffenhiem are the 13th best team and home and Köln are the 12th best team away. Expect this to be a low scoring affair.
Fortuna Düsseldorf vs Schalke 04
Time: 2:30 PM EST
Odds: Fortuna Düsseldorf +160, Draw +220, Schalke 04 +180
Last Game: 3-3 Draw on November 9th 2019
This should be the most intense game of the afternoon slate as both teams are desperate for a win. Hosts Fortuna Düsseldorf gave up a 2 goal lead to rival FC Köln on the weekend, settling for yet another draw. Fortuna have drawn their last 4 straight and will need to starting collecting the full 3 points if they hope to escape the relegation fight. They currently sit in the relegation playoff spot in 16th, 3 points back of Mainz 05 and only 2 points up on Werder Bremen. With Werder Bremen collecting a surprising 4 points in their last two games and having a game in hand, Dusseldorf will certainly feel the pressure to get a result in this one. USMNT goalie Zach Steffen is still out, while Dawid Kownacki is nearing a return and Kaan Ayhan is available following a suspension. Schalke 04 enter this game following an embarrassing 3-0 defeat at home to mid table Augsburg. Schalke have failed to get a win in their last 8 games in all competitions and have only managed to score twice in that span. Despite the poor run of form they currently sit in 8th and a win would take them to 7th and within 2 points of the final European spot. Amine Harit and Jean-Clair Todibo picked up injuries in the Dortmund match and are both doubtful for this one, while Benjamin Stambouli and Ozan Kabak are both closer to returning having sat out of the Augsburg match.
Expect an intense but low scoring affair between these two clubs. Both are in desperate need of a win to save their seasons. Schalke are the better side here, but their recent form is unlikely to inspire much confidence in fans or bettors.
Augsburg vs Paderborn
Time: 2:30 PM EST
Odds: Augsburg -110, Draw +270, Parderborn +280
Last Game: 1-0 Augsburg on November 9th 2019
This game features two clubs coming off surprising results on the weekend. New manager Heiko Herrlich got his time at Augsburg off to a great start with a surprising 3-0 upset away at Schalke on the weekend. The team now sit in 12th with 30 points and win here will all but ensure they avoid slipping into the relegation battle. Veteran midfielder Daniel Baier looks set to return after resting over the weekend. Paderborn also turned in a surprising result on the weekend, capitalizing on a sloppy play out of the back to level with Hoffenheim shortly after going down 1-0 and eventually earning a draw. That’s the second draw in a row for the last place team, showing that their opponents can still expect Paderborn to fight on despite being all but ensured relegation. Defender Luca Kilian is still expected out with a thigh injury, while Striker Streli Mamba and defender Sebastian Schonlau are both expected back.
These sides have only crossed paths a handful of times as they both bounce back and forth between the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga, but when they have met this one has gone Augsburg’s way with Paderborn only winning 1 of the last 6 meetings. These teams have some of the most porous defenses in the league, ranking 3rd and 4th in most goals against, so a high scoring game looks likely here. Expect the new manager bounce in Augsburg to continue with a strong performance here, but don’t be surprised to see Paderborn fight hard throughout to keep this close.
Union Berlin vs Mainz 05
Time: 2:30 PM EST
Odds: Union Berlin +140, Draw +240, Mainz +195
Last Game: 3-2 Union Berlin on November 9th 2019
This game sees two teams looking for their first win since the restart face off in a relegation 6 pointer. Hosts Union Berlin are coming off a horrendous 4-0 loss away to cross town rivals Hertha Berlin, where their back line imploded in the second half allowing 3 goals in a 10’ span. Union currently sit in 13th with 30 points, winless in their last 4, and a loss here will put them at risk of getting sucked into the relegation battle. Akaki Gogia remains out with a knee injury while Keven Schlotterbeck returns from suspension. Mainz come into this one following a 5-0 drubbing at home to RB Leipzig, and are now winless in their last 3. Mainz sit in 15th just one spot and 3 points above the relegation playoff spot and will be desperate for a result here. Veteran midfielder Danny Latza is expected back for this one, providing an experienced presence in midfield.
Union Berlin took the reverse fixture 3-2 where they came back from a 2-1 deficit, in the sides first meeting since a 2004 tie in the 2. Bundesliga. The famously raucous crowd at the Stadion An Der Alten Forsteri made Union a tough nut to crack at home, but they will need to get a result today without the help of their fans. Expect a tough and hard fought game as both sides try to claw their way out of the relegation battle. Goals are likely to be in short supply here with a draw looking probable.
