La Liga returns with a bang when Sevilla and Real Betis face off in the Andalusian Derby. Sevilla enter this game looking to extend their 4 game unbeaten streak, a run punctuated by a 2-2 draw away at Athlético Madrid in the last game before the break. Sevilla currently sit in 3rd, but with only 2 points separating them from 6th they will be hungry for a result in this one to stay in the Champions League race. Nemanja Gudelj will miss this one due to suspension, while Lucas Ocampos is fighting off a nagging injury but is expected to play.
Real Betis also return to play looking to build on a big result, having beat giants Real Madrid 2-1 in their last game before the break. Betis sit in 12th, but at only 8 points above the drop zone they are far from safety with ten games left and will need some results to secure their safety. Juanmi is expected to be the only Betis player missing for this one as he continues to work his way back from injury.
These two sides have one of the fiercest rivalries in Spain and while the atmosphere without fans will be lacking, don’t expect anything but an intense hard fought affair. Sevilla are unquestionably the better side here, and have the better record at home where they’ve taken four of the last six from Betis. These teams have similar offensive firepower with Sevilla scoring 39 goals thus far and Betis scoring 38, defensively however these sides are worlds apart with Sevilla conceding some of the fewest goals in the league and Betis allowing the 3rd most goals against. With neither side playing competitively in three months, expect a bit of sloppy play here which would seem to favor Sevilla.
