SPAL vs Cagliari

SPAL return to Serie A play in 19th, and after losing five of six before the break now sit seven points from safety.  Starting keeper Etrit Berisha is out after fracturing his hand in training. 

Cagliari come into this game following a 2-1 loss away to Hellas Verona, and sit in 11th seven points from a European spot.  João Pedro returns from suspension while Luca Ceppitelli and Luca Cigarin will sit out with suspensions.  Radja Nainggolan’s status remains in doubt for the visitors.

SPAL are winless in their last six against Cagliari, and were held to a clean sheet in three of those matches.  SPAL have struggled at home this year where they’ve collected the the 2nd fewest points in Serie A, and are winless in their previous eight.  SPAL have scored the 2nd fewest goals at home but have only allowed the 12th fewest goals against.  Cagliari has the 11th best away record in Serie A and are winless in their previous nine away matches.  Cagliari rank 10th in most away goals, and have allowed the 9th fewest goals against.  Both sides will be looking for a win to break their respective winless streaks here and pick up some much needed points.  Cagliari are the better side and should come away with the full three, especially against SPAL’s backup goalie.

Hellas Verona vs Napoli

Hellas Verona come into this match following a 2-1 home win over Cagliari.  Hellas now sit in 8th and are only one point back from a European Berth.  Fabio Borini will miss this match due to suspension while Matteo Pessina sits out with injury. 

Napoli come into this match following their victory on penalties over Juventus in the Coppa Italia final.  Napoli return to league play in 6th, tied with 7th place AC Milan on points but ahead on goal differential.  David Ospina returns in goal after sitting out the Coppa Italia final with a suspension.

Napoli have won six straight against Hellas in all competitions, with five clean sheets, and four of the last six when visiting Verona. Verona have played well at home this year where they have collected the 4th most points in Serie A and are unbeaten in their last five with four straight wins. Verona’s success at home has been due to their defense which has allowed the 6th fewest goals against at home this campaign. Napoli have performed well away this year, where they have the 6th best record in Serie A and have scored the 4th most goals away. Both sides will be hungry for a result in this matchup of strengths, as they both look to secure European football next year. Napoli will have the benefit of having played competitive games against Inter and Juventus to get themselves back in form and that momentum should help them secure a close win in this one.

Genoa vs Parma

Genoa return to Serie A play in 17th, tied with 18th place Lecce on points but ahead on goal differential.  Ivan Radovanovic has been ruled out and is expected to be the only Genoa player missing this match.

Parma enter this game following a 1-1 draw away at Torino.  Parma now sit in 8th but are just three points back of a European spot. Parma is expected to have their full roster available for this match.

Parma will feel confident in this match after having beaten Genoa in three straight.  Genoa have struggled at home this campaign and have the 4th worst home record in Serie A.  At home Genoa’s defense has been average ranking 11th in fewest goals against, but they have struggled offensively and only five teams have scored fewer goals at home.  Parma has been an average side away where they rank 9th in Serie A.  Parma has scored the 13th most goals away and allowed the 10th fewest goals against.  Genoa will have the motivational edge here but Parma is the better team and should be expected to take the full three points in this one.  

Torino vs Udinese

Torino come into this match following a 1-1 draw at home to Parma.  Torino now sit in 15th after a run of seven straight games without a win and are only three points above the relegation zone.  Daniele Baselli, Cristian Ansaldi and Simone Verdi are all ruled out for the home side here.

Udinese return to Serie A play in 14th.  Winless in their last seven Serie A matches, Udinese sit three points above the relegation zone.  Udinese are expected to have their full roster available for this match.

Torino has gotten the better of Udinese when playing at home, where the hosts have won four and drawn one of the previous six meetings. Torino have struggled at home this year where they have the 16th best record and have allowed the 4th most goals against while scoring the 3rd fewest. Udinese haven’t been much better away, where they rank dead last in points in Serie A this campaign and have scored the 3rd fewest goals while allowing the 3rd most goals against. With neither side likely to inspire much confidence a draw looks probable in this one.
